
In Bengaluru, a notorious criminal known for robbing travelers along the Bengaluru-Tumakuru national highway and other locations was shot in the leg by Dobbaspet police on Saturday. The injured individual, identified as Jayanath alias Battery Jayantha, 26, hails from Alur village in Kanakapura taluk, Ramanagara district. Jayanath, along with two accomplices, had previously assaulted a truck driver with daggers while the driver was stopping to eat near Billanakote of Nelamangala taluk. The driver was wounded, and his mobile phone and Rs 3,500 were stolen in the incident. In another incident in August, Jayanth stole an iPhone in Peenya, but was eventually tracked down with the help of the Find My Mobile app. Despite attempting to evade capture, Jayanth was confronted by police near Gittigerepalya Cross on the Dobbaspet-Ramanagara highway. Following a chase, Jayanth attacked two constables with a dagger, prompting the police inspector to shoot him in the leg in self-defense. Jayanth was then taken to a hospital for treatment and subsequently transferred to Victoria Hospital. Police records indicate that Jayanth has been linked to 51 cases involving attempted murder, robbery, kidnapping, extortion, burglary, and vehicle theft. A case of attempted murder under BNS Section 109 and the Arms Act was filed against Jayanth based on the complaint lodged by inspector Raju.
